A Dosage of Medicine(5) by Akihisa Ogino, translated by J.Kageyama
As soon as the bride’s father left, Genzo went up to his son, who was still sleeping in the room sheltering silkworms, and yelled at him, “Hey! What the fuck did you do! You bastard! You’re a beast that just eats and copulates. That’s it. You went to Tokyo for a bit and picked up some evil habits!” He was about to beat his son.
At first, his son was rubbing his sleepy eyes, but, when he began to comprehend the cause of his father’s anger, he retorted, "That’s why I feel sorry for farmers’ wives. They never learn the pleasures of being a couple and just die, after being forced to bear babies.”
“What! You, idiot, talking like some savior of the farms.
Do you take a farmer’s daughter for a whore or some stripper? Even in ancient Japan, way before you perverts were around, Japanese women were very happy. You westernized degenerate!” With his face red with anger, Genzo shouted, “And do you think that girl is just your bride?”
Kinsaku decided to wait till his father’s temper cooled off and hopped downstairs, skipping every other of the ladder.
Still in his pajamas, he put on his sandals and went out. “You’re jealous ‘cuz you’ve lost your youth,” he muttered.
His father misheard this as “lost your mind,” and became even more infuriated. “If I’ve lost my mind, what kind of mind do you have? You keep giving strange eyes at ever woman you see!”
